A new study suggests that insulin pumps may be helpful for children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes, as study participants had lower rates of severe hypoglycemia and diabetic ketoacidosis vs. participants using insulin shots. However, parents and caregivers should not feel obligated to switch to pump therapy if they do not feel it is right for them, as success still depends on patient training in pump use and careful following of the treatment plan.
