In the U.S., obesity is strongly associated with the development of type 2 diabetes; while not all people with type 2 are obese, the majority of them are. But 80 percent of worldwide type 2 diabetes cases are now in the developing world, and the association with obesity in these patients is not nearly so strong. A major study is underway in India to figure out why so many Indians who are not obese are developing type 2, and the findings could change how we understand type 2 diabetes. Read more
