The earlier a child is diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, the higher their risk of heart disease and a shorter lifespan, according to research. Researchers had thought the physical burden of more years spent with high glucose levels was the cause of heart problems and earlier death, but now think there may be another factor: developing diabetes younger may be associated with a more aggressive form of type 1 that causes more damage.
