Research has shown there are many genetic factors that can make someone more likely to develop type 2 diabetes, as well as environmental and lifestyle-related causes. Much of this research has been conducted on people of European descent, meaning the results may not apply to people of other ancestries. New research has looked at data specifically in those of Japanese ancestry. The results show some new genomic regions associated with type 2 that appear to be specific to people of Japanese heritage.
