During the first months of the coronavirus epidemic in the US, thousands more deaths occurred from heart disease and some other medical conditions than usual, according to an analysis of federal data by The Washington Post. The analysis found that over three months in five hard-hit states and in New York City, there were 8,300 more deaths from heart problems — an increase of roughly 27 percent — than would normally be expected in that time period.
