Obesity and type 2 diabetes can increase the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. Now, researchers are also investigating the relationship between type 3 diabetes and Alzheimer’s. Type 3 diabetes occurs when brain neurons can no longer respond to insulin. This affects memory and learning, and some researchers now believe insulin deficiency may be key to the cognitive decline Alzheimer’s patients experience.
