A new study suggests that having close ties and social interaction with friends and family may help people reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The study found that socially isolated women were more than twice as likely to have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes than women who were socially active, and 60 percent more likely to develop pre-diabetes. Men showed similar results, but at lower rates. However, men were at higher risk when they lived alone, while living alone or with others made no difference in diabetes risk for women. Read more
