Researchers have found that many people with prediabetes have serious risk for cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease. The researchers based their conclusions on data from the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys collected from 1988-2014. They found both cardiovascular and kidney issues associated with prediabetes (a term that describes people who have blood sugar levels that are higher than normal, but not yet in the diabetic range).
