More and more children and teens are being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, which used to be considered a disease of middle and old age. The ADA’s position statement stresses that young people who have type 2 diabetes or who are at risk for type 2 diabetes need to be approached differently than adults. The recommendations made in the ADA’s statement also stress the caution that is needed in treating young people with type 2, as the newness of the phenomenon means that relatively few studies have been done.
